Cold & Gray/Grey

It's cold, rainy and very windy. My dog is not a fan of South Texas winter weather!

And the scent of the day is:

MOSQUITO REPELLENT!
Visited three different locations throughout the city today and all three were infested with mosquitoes! Cover up or wear mosquito repellent because these little bugs are everywhere.

West Nile virus has been found in mosquitoes in nine areas of the city.

Helpful tips:

I'm looking for information about mosquito repellent's that are dog and cat friendly/safe. Any suggestions? We had a product by Hartz but I just noticed that it contains Ö N, N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) and I have discontinued using it.

Puppy Pics

My dog with his new toy duck. The duck was originally wearing a bikini but I removed it to keep him from eating it. He's now 12 weeks old!

With another toy of his.

Playing with a leaf. He's easily entertained.

CAKE

San Antonio Spurs are making me crazy! They haven't been playing well and I'm not sure they deserve to move forward. Manu is doing all the work. Superstars Duncan and Parker are slackers. Duncan is morphing into a sloth.
And Parker was too busy thinking of CAKE yesterday instead of playing ball because it was his 24th birthday. If the Mavs win, they deserve it and I applaud them!

I read the Da Vinci Code book in 3 days. I wanted to read it before seeing the movie because I caught a sneak peek and I didn't understand it. Big deal, this book is overrated. I only liked it for the Art mentions.

Dog: 1 Dolls: 0

I'd never gotten around to getting rid of stuffed animals that an ex gave me. I had them stored and forgot about them. I was throwing them into a trashbag for disposal but then my dog started taking them out and running all over the place with them. I thought, "Hey great idea!" So now the plush toys have been converted into dog toys and he's having fun chewing them up!

Oh Happy Day

Today was the first time the puppy was left home alone and the entire time I was out I prayed he wouldn't ruin any of the furniture. Came home to find the television and the caller ID unplugged but the wires weren't chewed on (Thankfully!). I felt like I had left my child at home and I needed to return ASAP. I was imagining him whimpering and chewing on everything but when I came home he was sound asleep. He's made peace with one of the other dogs. They go wild and chase one another AND they even share toys. I'm trying to crate train him and so far that's going super. He's basically training himself because all I'm doing is keeping it tidy. One thing that I find really funny about him is his whining. When he's sleeping he wants everybody to be quiet. If you make a noise he will whine and toss and turn. He's like a grumpy old man only cuter! I can't see him when it's dark, he sure loves pouncing on my toes and he loves going for drives. Today was such a good day. I hope your week started out as well as mine.

I know it's been out for a while now but I just saw "The Constant Gardener" this weekend and I absolutely loved it.

Day 2

He's adjusting well and the other dogs are warming up to him!

I am NOT naming him Elvis

I'll take pictures of the pup today. I'm trying to get him adjusted to being around us, our other dogs aren't being as friendly as I thought they would be. The male shihtzu has decided to not even give him a chance, he hates him but I'm working on it! He hides behind my feet a whole lot and plays with a chew toy, he surprised me and used the potty where I showed him (twice!) and he's not as destructive as I thought he would be... wait til he gets more accustomed and then maybe his true inner demon will appear. His eyes are grayish blue, pretty! And his coat is MILK CHOCOLATE - I love him!

And of course Mom thinks I should name him Elvis.

Puppy Love

We have a new addition to our family! He's 6 weeks old and I'll get to bring him home tomorrow. My WONDERFUL Sister has surprised me with a puppy and I'm so excited! I will post a picture of him real soon. I've been wanting a dog of this breed for ages and I can't wait to see him!

From Denmark

I found an old stamp. I searched online and found that it's from 1912... this house wasn't built back then, so how did this stamp get in our floor boards?

Bridge to recovery: Stem Cell Research

"Mice with severe spinal cord injuries regained much of their ability to walk normally after getting injections of stem cells taken from the brains of human fetuses, scientists in California reported yesterday."

The research was funded by the nonprofit Christopher Reeve Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. StemCells Inc. of Palo Alto, Calif., provided the fetal-derived stem cells.

The research done four decades ago by University Professors Emeritus James Till and Ernest McCulloch laid the foundation for all current work on adult and embryonic stem cells.

toad the wet sprocket - walk on the ocean

We spotted the ocean at the head of the trail
Where are we going, so far away
And somebody told me that this is the place
Where everything’s better, everything’s safe
Walk on the ocean
Step on the stones
Flesh becomes water
Wood becomes bone

And half and hour later we packed up our things
We said we’d send letters and all those little things
And they knew we were lying but they smiled just the same
It seemed they’d already forgotten we’d came

Now we’re back at the homestead
Where the air makes you choke
And people don’t know you
And trust is a joke
We don’t even have pictures
Just memories to hold
That grow sweeter each season
As we slowly grow old

PS2 Game: Area 51

Played this game for about 40 minutes yesterday and I ended up dreaming about aliens. I don't think I'm very far into the game yet but so far I like it. I'm enjoying the storyline and the missions.
There's a part where you have to grab a security guards severed arm from the floor. There's a scanning device at the door and you have to put the palm of the hand on the scanner.. that's how it identifies the person. I used the severed hand to enter the room. That's nothing, it gets better.
The noise effects are crazy and the way mutants jump out at you from dark corners is scary. It's very bloody and graphic. The graphics are fantastic. I can only compare it to Silent Hill because I can't think of any other game that has made me jump as much.

Oh my god.

A forgotten workshop of Leonardo da Vinci, complete with 500-year-old frescos and a secret room to dissect human cadavers, has been discovered in Florence, Italy, researchers said on Tuesday.
