An amazing "young" man with a good heart

"In August 2004, I will swim the English Channel at age 70. Your generous donations to this extreme challenge will help to build a brighter future for the children of Haiti" - George Brunstad

A few hours ago, he completed his mission. Success! He was able to raise over $11,000, which will be used to build an orphanage, a medical center and schools in Hinche, a city in Haiti. What a wonderful man.

Smile

me queda cantar

cantare, hasta morir
hasta verte sonreir
donde estes te cantare, solo a ti

cantare hasta morir
hasta verte sonreir
donde estes te cantare, solamente a ti

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals

Want to see where your KFC chicken comes from?
Then Click Here: http://www.peta.org/feat/moorefield

Warning: This video contains clips of animal cruelty.

--------

I understand the organization PETA and I respect their mission. But, I don't think I'd be a good member if I joined.
I am for animal testing, and the use of animals in laboratories - for research/science. I am not for killing animals for wear(fur coats). Although, I think I'm being kinda biased, because I like zoos. Zoos would fall in the 'animals for entertainment' category I think? When I was little I always looked forward to the circus, we'd all go. I don't mind animals for enertainment, as long as they are being well taken care of, and not mistreated. Hmmm...

Laughter IS the best medicine

An adorable two year old(Amy's little girl) just told me off. I think I annoyed her real bad because she started screaming, "LEAVE ME ALONE!" :'D

Entire 23-acre lake vanished in a matter of days

Hah! That would've freaked me out too if I had lakefront property. I'd rather live by the ocean though or up in the mountains. California would be perfect, only I'm afraid of earthquakes. Especially with all the stuff I've heard/read about the "Big One" hitting soon.
Then again, I'm on the coast of Texas, and hurricanes come by here all the time.. so hmmm.

Earthquakes, Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Hurricanes...

"UCLA geologist Vladimir Keilis-Borok predicted earlier this year that a magnitude 6.4 or greater earthquake could hit the desert by Sept. 5."

I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see.

Forgotten

How could these men and so called "friends" just leave without him?! I don't understand...
Poor guy.

A recreational diver forgotten at sea by a boat crew drifted five hours and prayed for his life before a Boy Scout on an excursion aboard a century-old ship spotted him.

Ballet

Went to a ballet and theater performance tonight at my old high school. The theater students were really good and the ballet dancers were nice too. Oh! And they also had flamenco dancers.. that was so pretty.

I wish I...

I wish I was a neutron bomb, for once I could go off
I wish I was a sacrifice but somehow still lived on
I wish I was a sentimental ornament you hung on
The Christmas tree, I wish I was the star that went on top
I wish I was the evidence, I wish I was the grounds
For 50 million hands upraised and open toward the sky

I wish I was a sailor with someone who waited for me
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me
I wish I was a messenger and all the news was good
I wish I was the full moon shining off a Camaro's hood

I wish I was an alien at home behind the sun
I wish I was the souvenir you kept your house key on
I wish I was the pedal brake that you depended on
I wish I was the verb 'to trust' and never let you down

I wish I was a radio song, the one that you turned up
I wish...
I wish... -Pearl Jam

Motivation

If you're anticipating the worst while hoping for the best, you will usually get the worst. Imagine the best, expect the best and you'll usually get the best. -

I'm back!

Took us 25 hours to get there, 28 hours to come back to Corpus Christi. I took over 1000 photos and 20 hours of video. I'm glad I went. :) Grandma is a beautiful little lady. Might seem strange, but I didn't even miss Texas and I really didn't want to come back. But we're home now. :) I uploaded the photos, but I don't think I'll be putting them on a public photo album thing... maybe just a few. We'll see.
VIVA MEXICO!

Ok, ok, ok... I missed the computer A LITTLE.

After The Fall

Dust now settled
in the shadows of memory,
we heed the alarm
and rise to face a new day.

Sorrow clouds the mind
as we struggle with reason.

Eyes open,
leery of what we might see,
we move forward

with honor and love
in our hearts.

Combination of Loss and Humiliation May Trigger Depression

"Love can make our life wonderful, but it also can make us miserable," says Kendler.

And that's why God made Mexico

I miss Mexico.

"...And that's why God made Mexico
A place where we can lay low
And the Cuervo goes down nice and slow
And the warm winds blow
That's why God made Mexico

...Cause life is sweet in a border town
You learn to let your hair down
And you don't make trouble
You learn to dance the Fandango
You change your name, maybe change your face
Get used to beans chili paste
And you learn to live and love
Life in the slow lane

That's why God made
Made Mexico"

This calm before the storm...

Blue skies with a white fluffy cloud here and there. Birds are chirping and flying around from tree to tree. Concrete is hot, burned my bare feet - and there's no wind. It's calm. Eerie calm. Yet, 400+ miles out into the Gulf of Mexico dwells Claudette. She's up to 60mph now... wonder if our windows will survive. Ugh. Stupid wires better not snap either. Last time we went about 2-3 weeks without power after the tornado and it was a bitch getting someone out here to finally fix it.
Here's a poem, it's by a guy named Paul Chen.

this calm before the storm
this treasured moment,
this quiet lull,
this calm before the storm

soon, it will end,
soon, become a rage,
this calm before the storm

i savor and cherish,
i will hold in,
this calm before the storm

while it is still,
while you are calm,
this calm before the storm
